How to do it

You need: A mirror.

Sit comfortably in front of a mirror in good light, close enough to see both sides of your face clearly, and let your face rest in a neutral position before you start.

  1. Look straight ahead and raise both eyebrows, as if mildly surprised.
  2. Watch the mirror and keep the lift even, letting the stronger side rise only as far as the weaker side.
  3. Hold the raised, even position for a few seconds.
  4. Slowly lower your eyebrows back to neutral.

Form cues

  • keep the two sides even; move the weaker side only as far as it can match the stronger side; never force
  • The lines across your forehead stay as level as you can make them.
  • Your eyes and mouth stay relaxed while your forehead works.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the stronger eyebrow shoot up while the weaker one barely moves.
  • Tipping your head back instead of lifting the eyebrows.
  • Screwing up the rest of your face to help.

Safety: Stop and message your physio if you develop new facial twitching or tightness, or movements start happening in more than one area at once (for example your eye closing when you smile).
